How we work with candidates

According to a recent study, 86% of the most qualified candidates are already employed and not actively seeking a new job. This means companies don’t pick you anymore, you choose them. At Socium we understand that the majority of talent within the tech industry isn’t currently on the lookout for a new role. That’s why we don’t try to sell you any. We take a consultative approach with our candidates, so when you are ready to make a move, we already understand what your perfect role would look like. Don’t believe us? In this blog we’ll give you an insight into the type of conversations we will have with you, whether you’re actively looking for a role, or not.

1 – Where have you enjoyed working?

Most recruiters want to know what your key motivators have been for changing roles. We, on the other hand, want to hear about what you’ve enjoyed in previous jobs. Which position had the most exciting projects to work on? Which post had the best office culture? Where did you feel like you achieved something? We want to know about the positive experiences you’ve had in your career.

2 – Who have you enjoyed working with?

A lot of the time it doesn’t matter where you work, but who you work with. Having a supportive team can turn a good job into a great job. So we’re interested in who you’ve enjoyed working with in your career, be that colleagues, contractors or managers. We’ll ask you questions such as which boss had the best management style? What made that specific team a great team to work in? Who do you aspire to work with in your industry? All these questions help us build a picture of the type of role you may be interested in, in the future.

3 – what would be your ultimate career goal?

According to research if you write down or voice your goals, you’re more likely to achieve them. At Socium, we want to know not just what you would like to accomplish in the short-term but also long-term- even if it’s more of a dream than an aspiration right now. By knowing what you’re striving for we can ensure our recommendations are relevant.

4 – Our next steps

We don’t expect to gain all this information in one conversation. We want to build a relationship with you so we might have multiple discussions and email exchanges without a mention of any vacancies. But why should you speak to a recruiter when you’re not immediately looking for a role, I hear you ask? Well, so that when the time comes you’ll know who to call and we’ll be well versed in the type of roles that are relevant and going to get you where you want to be.

5- The bespoke approach

In the future, if you’re interested in hearing about new opportunities, we won’t try to sell you the jobs we already have which are with, yes you guessed it, “market-leading” companies. Instead, we’ll go away, speak with our contacts and build a list of roles which fit with your unique set of requirements.

So if you’d like to be bombarded with irrelevant jobs via a plethora of different communication methods, then we’re not the recruitment partner for you. If however, you’re open to having an in-depth conversation before you’re on the lookout, feel free to get in touch at 0161 9600 800 or
